The New York Times brought immersive video journalism to Gear VR with the launch of NYT VR in August. Today, we’re excited to announce the debut of a brand-new documentary, “The National: Something Out of Nothing.”

Step inside the recording studio and onto the stage with indie rock darlings The National. This 12-minute documentary from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Marshall Curry takes you behind the scenes for rehearsals and recording sessions over the past year, leading up to today’s release of the band’s seventh studio album, Sleep Well Beast.

To bring the experience to life, NYT VR has been updated to include spatialized audio. That means you’ll benefit from each scene’s acoustics in dynamic, realistic detail.

Whether or not you’re planning to catch The National on tour this year, you can experience some of the magic in VR today.

Check out “The National: Something Out of Nothing” in the NYT VR app, available now on the Oculus Store.
