Most of us might never walk the streets of Paris during Fashion Week or catch a live performance of the Martha Graham Dance Company in NYC, but with VR, you can get an immersive taste of both. Today, we’re excited to announce that Barneys New York has partnered with the iconic contemporary dance company to bring its Spring campaign, Mantle, to life on Samsung Gear VR, powered by Oculus.
Directed by Theo Stanley with choreography by Cynthia Anne Stanley, Mantle features exclusive designs by Craig Green, Loewe, Prabal Gurung, Rick Owens, and The Row. The cast of dancers is remarkably diverse, including four principal dancers and former company members of various ages—some of whom are in their 70s and have been with the group since Martha Graham’s own tenure.
“Mantle offers an entirely new way to experience our world-class dancers and the creative legacy of the revolutionary artist Martha Graham,” says Martha Graham Dance Company Artistic Director Janet Eilber. “She would have been fascinated by this innovative collaboration with Barneys New York, which has brought together top creative minds to create an intriguing and magical immersive film.”
Mantle will be on view at all Barneys New York locations, with Gear VR headsets available in the Madison Avenue, Downtown, and Beverly Hills flagship stores for a more immersive experience. You can also experience the film through the Samsung VR app on Gear VR.
