Home exercise has become an inevitable fixture for many these days, and we know some of you are turning to your headset to work up a sweat. To spice up your fitness routine with healthy competition, the Virtual Athletics League (VAL) is hosting a series of tournaments, contests, and speakers across VR fitness and esports. The virtual VR Fitness Summit runs now through September 13. Over 40 VR studios and groups are participating across the summit, including Survios, Kluge Interactive, and more. The event also includes a charity fundraiser for Extra Life, benefiting their network of 170 Children’s Hospitals. The studios behind Beat Saber, SUPERHOT VR, Pistol Whip, In Death: Unchained, and others will donate keys to help support Extra Life as part of the event.

“Over the last year, we have seen an incredible organic growth happen in the VR space around fitness,” says VAL CEO Ryan Burningham. “For many people, it’s becoming part of their daily routine to pick up their headset and get their workout on! We are also seeing high skill levels from people who are becoming real athletes using VR fitness. This is happening across both gaming titles like Creed: Rise to Glory and more fitness-focused ones like FitXR.”

Watch the tournaments live, join in the challenges, and hear from speakers in the VR fitness community.

Tournaments

Qualifiers for some of the 24 tournaments have already started, though there’s still time to register at vrfitsummit.com. There’s a combined prize pool of $25K USD up for grabs, including $5K USD in the Pro Putt by Topgolf competition and five $100 USD rewards in the collaborative prize pool for OhShape and Synth Riders.

Want to see top players from across the world face off against each other? Join the crowd in Oculus Venues for the Finals of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners on September 5 at 3:00 pm PT and Until You Fall on September 6 at 3:00 pm PT.

Challenges

Not ready to join a tournament? No problem. Some developers are hosting social media contests, where you can share your own VR fitness journey and encourage others.

The Thrill of the Fight has a $400 USD prize pool on offer, while FitXR is giving away $2K USD for sharing your VR workout on social media.

Tommy Palm discuss the studio’s upcoming game Blaston, where players weave and dodge like virtual gladiators while dueling their opponents. Meet the Coaches of Supernatural.
