In 2021, we celebrated five years of consumer VR—and did it in a big way. This has been an incredible year for VR and gaming, with the release of the long-awaited Lone Echo II, the resurrection of Resident Evil 4 for Quest 2, groundbreaking new titles like A Township Tale and Demeoand YUKI, and... well, way too much to list, really. We’re so grateful to our developer community for embracing VR, and we hope that you’ve all found some new favorites this year.

There’s more on the way, believe it or not. VR gaming continues to grow, and we’re investing heavily in building a healthy ecosystem for both developers and players—for the long term. In gaming, we see the seeds of what will one day become the metaverse, and we’re excited to help build that along with all of you.

Below you’ll find a recap of all the gaming news at Connect 2021. You’ll find both major new announcements—like a built-for-VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas—and updates to your current favorites, like Beat Saber. We hope you’re as excited about the next few years as we are! Read on for more details.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Today at Connect, we announced that the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is in development for Quest 2. Get a new perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro, and Las Venturas as you experience (again or for the first time) one of gaming’s most iconic open worlds. This is a project many years in the making, and we can’t wait to show you more of it.

Vertigo Games

For years now, Vertigo Games has been at the forefront of VR as both a developer and publisher. Their list of successful games is long and growing longer, from Arizona Sunshine to A Fisherman’s Tale to the recent Unplugged and upcoming multiplayer action title After the Fall.

We love working with them, and today we announced that we’re partnering with Vertigo Games on not one but five new games, including fan-favorite game worlds from Deep Silver and others. Expect to hear more details on this lineup soon!

Beat Saber

Beat Saber’s had another incredible year—recently surpassing $100 million USD in gross lifetime revenue on just the Quest Platform alone. And Beat Games has kept it fresh throughout 2021 with a fourth free update to the original soundtrack and downloadable packs from Skrillex, Billie Eilish, and more.

We’re not done though. We’ve got an amazing lineup of artists for 2022—and one more big surprise before the end of the year as well. And if that’s not enough of a tease, check out the short clip below:

POPULATION: ONE launched during last year’s Connect. Now this built-for-VR battle royale is the biggest multiplayer shooter on the Quest Platform, thanks in part to the team’s tireless efforts to launch new updates and keep things fresh for the community.

Expect those updates to continue. We’ll launch a brand-new Autumn event in November, and then plunge players into a Winter Wonderland come December. And if you’re around this weekend, you’ll be able to earn double XP on Saturday and Sunday. Better get practicing!

Blade & Sorcery: Nomad

Blade & Sorcery set a new standard for melee combat when it launched on the Rift Platform in 2019. “The era of weightless, wiggle-sword combat is over,” proclaimed developer WarpFrog, introducing players to a system where weapons had a real heft to their movements.

Now it’s time to introduce even more people to this groundbreaking combat sandbox. Later this year WarpFrog will release Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, bringing its take on magic, melee, and medieval fantasy over to the Quest 2 as well. Click here to learn more.
