Previously released on Rift, Oculus Go, and Gear VR, Space Explorers is a two-part cinematic VR series from Felix & Paul Studios that documents the new age of space exploration. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Brie Larson, the project highlights the camaraderie of space programs around the world while sharing the stories of real-life astronauts—veterans and novices alike—as they train for and complete their missions. The first episode, Space Explorers: A New Dawn, debuted at Sundance 2018, and today, we’re excited to share that the story continues with Space Explorers: Taking Flight!

Episode 2 focuses on the importance of continued collaboration between international space programs as well as new partnerships between agencies like NASA and private corporations, which may prove vital to the success of the world’s space exploration efforts. In Space Explorers: Taking Flight, we see first-hand how astronauts from different countries come together to support projects like the International Space Station.

Viewers are also treated to front-row seats at several rocket launches, including Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin’s thrilling departure for the ISS. By developing a unique system that separated its proprietary VR cameras from their corresponding data recording and battery systems, Felix & Paul was able to get up close and personal as it captured the full intensity of each launch—letting the physical cameras melt without sacrificing the data necessary to share these one-of-a-kind immersive VR scenes.

Experience new heights with Space Explorers: Taking Flight on Rift, Oculus Go, and Gear VR today! The app is just $2.99 USD on all three headsets, or you can grab it as part of the Into Space & the Universe pack on Oculus Go and Gear VR. Already own Space Explorers? Episode 2 is now available as a free update, so dive on in!
