Horizon Worlds Opens to Those 18+ in the US and Canada

Today, we’re making Horizon Worlds available for free to people 18 years or older in the US and Canada. Horizon Worlds is a social VR experience where you can create and explore together. Since launching as an invite-only beta last year, we’ve been amazed by the community that’s begun to form and inspired by the unique experiences they’ve built. From action-packed games to tranquil locales ideal for meditation, Horizon Worlds has something to offer every taste and mood.

Our vision for Horizon Worlds is to bring to life a creator-friendly VR space with best-in-class social world-building tools. And we’ve spent the past year developing those tools and improving them based on creator feedback. To better support those creators, we announced a $10 million Creator Fund in October. Since then, we launched our first Creator Competition with cash prizes and will announce the winners later this month.

We’re also debuting a new team-based 3v3 laser tag inside Horizon Worlds called Arena Clash, along with new mechanics and templates creators can use when building their own games. Creators can now modify working scripts to create their own games for the community to play. We can’t wait to see what people build—stay tuned for more reference worlds and templates coming in the future.

We want everyone in Horizon Worlds to feel in control of their experience. Everyone must follow our Conduct in VR Policy, and if someone is bothering you, remember that you have several options. You can access your personal Safe Zone at any time through your wrist menu, which lets you take a break and then block, mute, or report people. You can read more about our safety options in Horizon Worlds here.

If you’re just getting started in Horizon Worlds, or if you haven’t stopped by in a while, here are some recommendations for where to get started and what to check out:

Create a World of Your Own

Whether flying solo or collaborating with friends, you can bring your ideas to life inside Horizon World with intuitive world-building tools—all without leaving VR. Click here for a series of tutorials to help you get started. From the basics of building to scripting and publishing, we’ve got you covered.

Play a World Hop

World Hop is a set of randomized mini-games that two to four players can play through together. At the end of the series, players will land in a trophy room where they can compare their final scores and ranking.

Compete in Arena Clash

In Arena Clash, communication is key. Master the map, find the best weapons, and work with your teammates to outscore the opposition in this high-octane battle for supremacy!

Explore Thousands of Worlds Built By the Community

In Horizon Worlds, you’re more than just a visitor—you’re part of what makes it great. And as Horizon Worlds expands, there’s plenty to explore. Here are some of the community’s favorites, out of the thousands of worlds built already, to get you started:

We’re excited to open Horizon Worlds up to more people today and look forward to expanding the app even further in the future. It’s available to download for free on Quest 2 here (as of January 13, 2022, it will no longer be supported on Quest 1). Stay tuned to the blog for future updates, and join the official Horizon Worlds Facebook Group to meet fellow community members, see the latest new worlds being built, and kick off a collaboration of your own.
