When Settlers of Catan first launched in 1995, it took the tabletop gaming world by storm—spawning board and video game spinoffs, editions in 40 languages, and a combined 27M units in global sales. Yesterday at GDC, we announced that Catan is taking an exciting step forward with the launch of Catan VR, now available on Rift and Gear VR.
Developer Experiment 7 teamed up with Catan’s original designer Klaus Teuber, his sons Guido and Benjamin, and the Catan and Asmodee Digital teams to bring the iconic island to life in an immersive new way. Play with friends and strangers near or far thanks to friend invites, matchmaking, and cross-platform functionality. You can also fly solo against classic Catan AI opponents.
Check out their previously-released beta trailer for a look at the gameplay:
Combining resource management, social play, and elements of chance, Catan holds appeal for hard-core and casual gamers alike. It’s the ultimate party game—and VR lets you get the party started no matter where the other players happen to be.
