Welcome to another installment of Oculus Tips & Tricks. Each episode will deliver score-boosting intel from the developer community to help new players maximize their performance.

Today, we’re exploring the first-person military sim Onward on Oculus Quest. Originally released on the Rift Platform, Onward blends authentic military tactics and strategy with immersive gameplay only VR can deliver. Make no mistake — Onward is frenetic and tense — you need a cool head and a quick trigger finger to survive engagements and win the day.

We asked the talented folks at Downpour Interactive to give us a few tips to help new recruits on the virtual battlefield.

Tip 1

“Every weapon in Onward is unique, not only in the way it handles, but also in the way it is operated. Getting familiar with your favorite weapons is an essential first step in your mastery of Onward.”

Tip 2

“Onward features a wide variety of maps, each offering many possible approaches. Understanding the layout and intricacies of the battlefield will help you get an advantage over your competitors!”

Tip 3

“Your rifle is arguably your most valuable asset in battle, but a squad of experienced soldiers gains an edge by using additional equipment to support each other. Such equipment includes smoke grenades or an aerial drone.”

Tip 4

“Every battle in Onward is a high stakes experience. In multiplayer battles, efficient communication is essential. Communicating enemy positions and movements is a must to reach your objectives!”

Tip 5

Onward has an active competitive gaming scene, including events in the VR Master League and the ESL. Once you’ve mastered the game, it’s time to check out the VRML and ESL or join our public Discord.

That’s it for this edition of Oculus Tips & Tricks. If you’re ready to join the fight, grab your gear and jump into Onward on Quest today!
