VR art creation has never been more intense! Spanning three cities and featuring 24 artists, Oculus Medium’s Road to Tokyo documents the ultimate VR sculpting tournament where artists become champions.
In each city—Menlo Park, New York, and London—eight artists competed in head-to-head battles during a knockout-style tournament. Starting with a blank Medium scene, competitors had just 10 minutes to sculpt a winning VR piece and advance to the next round. Winners from each city won an all-expense-paid trip to Tokyo to compete using Oculus Medium for the first-ever VR Sculpting Battles at the World Grand Prix 2019!
We previously announced the Road to Tokyo, a three-part reality TV show that captured all the action, intrigue, and drama along our artists’ journey toward Japan. Today, we’re sharing you all three episodes and revealing the VR Sculpting World Champion.
As with other competitions, these art battles required strategy, quick reflexes, and masterful navigation. The artists were judged not only for speed and creativity, but also for flair, performance, and visual storytelling—all with a steady hand and calmness under pressure. We hope you enjoy the full Road to Tokyo Series, which celebrates how these amazing artists created full VR characters and VR scenes literally out of thin air.
