Research Scientist, Intelligent Vision System (PhD University Grad)

Oculus Research at Facebook is a world leader in the development of future generations of AR/VR systems. We are currently seeking an innovative research scientist at our research location in Redmond, WA. The research agenda is focused on an intelligent vision system that is multi-disciplinary and at the intersection of sensing hardware and software across the stack of sensors, circuits, signal processing architectures and AI algorithms. The position requires a PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligent, perception science or similar field.


  • Explore ground-breaking intelligent vision and sensing technologies for AR/VR systems
  • Develop machine perception and artificial intelligent algorithms that are suitable for on-sensor implementation for low-power, low latency neuromorphic computing systems
  • Develop sensing and vision processing circuit and hardware, investigate innovative sensor architectures and on-sensor vision processing compute engines
  • Perform system performance evaluation by modeling, simulation, experimenting, data collection, and trade-off study
  • Collaborate with internal and external computer vision scientists, hardware and software architects, perception scientists, and optical experts on cutting edge vision systems
  • Mentor MS/PhD interns and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals
  • Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in the field of sensor design, computer vision and signal processing, neuromorphic computing circuits and systems, artificial intelligent, perception science, or a related field
  • Must be available to start employment on or after January 1, 2018
  • 3+ years research experience in sensing system, computer vision system, machine learning algorithm and hardware developments in academic research
  • 3+ years experience with programming language such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, Torch
  • Experience at the inter-junction of machine perception system and hardware implementation
  • Proven track record of achieving results, including, first-authored journal publications
  • Interpersonal skills with cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Able to obtain work authorization in the U.S. for beginning in 2018

Preferred Qualifications

  • Past experience in system modeling across data/image capture, signal processing pipeline, algorithm, power and computation analysis
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as JSSC, IEEE TCAS, ICCV, ISCA, and ICML
