RF Engineer

As a RF Systems Engineer at Oculus Research you will develop new wireless systems for Augmented Reality (AR). You will work closely with product design, electrical and firmware engineers on advancing the state of AR through research and development, prototyping, and implementation in shipping products. You will own RF system design from initial definition through production. You should have deep experience in consumer electronics (CE) development and wireless technology along with a passion for exploration and experimentation.


  • Architect and deliver high performance wireless solutions at optimal BOM costs at low power, balanced with appropriate throughput
  • Drive invention and evolution of RF wireless system architectures to enable experiences for future products
  • Provide guidance and leadership to RF design activities for internal and external teams
  • Perform multi-radio coexistence mitigation (including RF link budget planning and issue debugging)
  • Perform simulations for RF design and desense mitigation (3D EM and circuit level simulations)
  • Characterize and debug desense and EMI issues to meet requirements
  • Work with antenna design and test vendors to ensure the quality of the overall system design
  • Work with internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure specifications are met at the component, board, and system-level
  • Design and execute a test methodology for characterizing system performance with external partners and test houses
  • Take the product through development, compliance testing, operator testing

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in RF and communication system design in consumer electronics.
  • Experience with WLAN, Bluetooth/BLE, WiGig/mm-wave, LTE and/or future 5G, 2.4GHz proprietary, NFC, etc.
  • Design knowledge in radio design, radio calibration, antenna fundamentals, matching network design, power amplifier characterization, load pull analysis, and transmission line theory.
  • Experience with RF protocol design and evaluation
  • Experience with 3D EM simulation tools such as HFSS
  • Experience with Wave Propagation software such as Savant.
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and antenna chambers
  • Experience in basic RF concepts such as impedance matching and Smith Charts.
  • Experience with PCB layout fundamentals
  • Understanding of RF system architecture, design & test of hardware boards
  • Knowledge of wireless communications algorithms, protocols and MAC implementations as well as capability to evaluate the system tradeoffs
  • Experience with antenna integration issues
