Tooling and Process Development Engineer Intern

Oculus is looking for a self-motivated Tooling and Process Development Engineer Intern. As a 12-week summer intern, you will work with experienced Tooling and Process Development Engineers to gain exposure to a variety of molding and forming processes. You will experience hands on collaboration with Product Design and suppliers, as well as exposure to various functions within Operations. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative distributed team environment. We are looking for someone with a productive mindset who can apply their education and intuition to solve problems in creative, insightful ways.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Design teams on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) for optimal molding and tooling efficiency, while meeting the needs and desires of product designers
  • Interface with senior Tooling Engineers, suppliers and Product Design teams for DFM reviews and issue resolution for tool release
  • Engage with our suppliers for development of tool design, process, quality, and product cosmetic requirements
  • Ensure quality output of mechanical components using statistical process control, driving measurement (MSOP/GR&R), analysis (moisture analysis, mechanical IPQC, cosmetic durability, etc.), and tooling/process qualification (PPAP/PMP), as appropriate
  • Manage and direct Oculus suppliers to achieve the overall tool fabrication and qualification schedule, as well as part manufacturing schedule to support all development and pre-MP builds
  • Ability to participate in MoldFlow, and FEA reviews to contribute to part and tool design process
  • Work with vendors to understand and develop molding and secondary operation processes
  • Communicate manufacturing issues, risks, and opportunities to drive resolution, as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated progress towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials or Plastics Engineering
  • Coursework and solid foundation in plastic and metal materials
  • Coursework in thermoplastic and thermoset elastomeric processes and materials
  • Coursework in metal fabrication methods (die-casting, high volume CNC, and metal stamping)
  • Knowledge of plastic specialty injection molding (multi-shot, insert molding, thin wall, IML)
  • Knowledge of Metal Injection Molding (MIM) and Thixotropic molding processes and materials
