Research Intern, Brain-Computer Interface (PhD University Student)

Internship - Engineering, Tech & Design | Redmond, WA

Oculus Research is looking for an intern to help us to invent technologies for interacting with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) devices. You will explore ways we can interact with AR/VR devices using a brain-computer interface (BCI) and other physiological signals. Specifically, as a BCI researcher, you will explore the use of one or more brain signal sensing modalities, including EEG, fNIRS, MEG, fMRI, RF and state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms. You also will have opportunities to work with leading academic collaborators in the BCI field.

Our internship is twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance BCI technologies in one or more of the following areas:
  • -Advanced brain sensor research including electrical, optical, or magnetic sensors and associated noise reduction or integration techniques
  • -Advanced machine learning development for BCI
  • -BCI for AR interaction prototype development
  • Collaborate with other researchers, engineers, and user experience researchers to prototype hardware and software solutions, and run experiments to advance the project.
  • Work with leading academic researchers in the BCI field. The work should result in publishable research that appears in top-tier journals or at leading international conferences in the field of neuroscience and BCI in particular.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD candidate in electrical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, physics or related field.
  • Excellent research skills involving defining problems, exploring solutions, and analyzing and presenting results.
  • Proficiency with Matlab, python or C++.
  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Ability to obtain work authorization in the U.S. in 2018

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in brain computer interface (BCI) research
  • Experience with sensor fusion, integrating electrical or optical sensors
  • Knowledge of or experience with machine learning techniques
