Research Intern, Evaluation of Capture Systems (PhD University Student)

Internship - Engineering, Tech & Design | Sausalito, CA

Oculus is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative interns with a passion for technology to develop the next generation of virtual humans. The focus of our roles is on full body capture and reconstruction. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Research topics:

- Evaluation of virtual humans in VR applications
- User and perceptual studies


  • Running user experiments with virtual human systems
  • Building prototype systems for use in experiments
  • Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines
  • Communication of research agenda, progress and results

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Animation, Human-Computer Interaction
  • Currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship
  • 2+ years experience with developing character systems, performing user evaluations and/or statistical methods for experiment evaluation
  • 2+ years experience with motion capture, character animation and/or 3D computer graphics
  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Ability to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2017

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience with developing prototypes in Unity or related game engines
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated in accepted papers at top character animation, virtual agent and HCI venues such as SIGGRAPH, SCA, CHI, IVA, ICMI, etc.
