Research Intern, Physical Ergonomics/Human Factors (PhD University Student)

Internship - Engineering, Tech & Design | Redmond, WA

Oculus is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking innovative interns with a passion for applied and fundamental research in fields related to virtual reality. The focus of this internship is to further research in human factors and ergonomics for virtual reality. You’ll have the unique opportunity to work with the researchers, engineers, and designers who are defining the future of VR systems. We are accepting applications from students interested in (but not limited to) the following areas:

- Human Factors
- Bio Engineering
- Ergonomics
- Anthropometrics

Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.


  • Plan and execute cutting-edge research to advance robot-human interfaces and wearable sensing technology
  • Collaborate with other researchers, engineers, and artists to prototype hardware and software solutions, and run experiments to advance the project

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong background in experimental methods and knowledge of how device design can impact human comfort, desirability and the user experience
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-group, and cross-culture collaboration
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem solving capabilities
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results (e.g., peer-review publications)
  • Ability to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2018

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with anthropometrics and ergonomics for user productivity and comfort
