Concept Engineering is the team within the Core Tech that actively participates in concept development and design ideation of cutting edge technologies. The team is responsible for rapidly building and iterating polished high-fidelity prototypes and development platforms that bring new ideas to life by expressing design intent and user experience - using the best and most appropriate tools and techniques for the task. While we want these prototypes to be optimized for speed, the hardware and software should be designed with the ultimate goal of mass production. These prototypes and development platforms will be used to prove and sell concepts through establishing end user value to development teams and leadership; additionally, they would be used in testing and data collection in support of hardware technology and computer vision algorithm development. We are seeking an Opto-Mechanical Engineer who has a passion for working across disciplines to develop next generation near to eye display, viewing optics and imaging systems to turn early cutting edge concepts and technologies into reality. As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for opto-mechanics and related technologies as technology building blocks to enable next generation products.


  • Lead development of system requirements to create new experiences, and advance technologies necessary to create product architectures that can deliver these requirements.
  • Support modeling and prototyping for next-generation opto-mechanical assemblies such as displays and cameras.
  • Support evaluating and characterizing optical elements and image processing algorithms
  • Lead cross-functionally with researchers and engineers to develop and ship innovative concepts that advance the entire product pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure and applications)

Minimum Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
  • 8+ years of experience, working on both applied research and product development of advanced optics, photonic and opto-mechanical systems
  • Experience applying DFM and DFA best practices to injection-molded elements and plastic lenses
  • Working knowledge of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics, statistics, and polarization.
  • Working knowledge of sources (lasers and LED’s), spatial light modulators, diffractive optics, optical materials, and thin films optics.
  • Experience in micro-optics design, optical assembly, light source assembly and active alignment
  • Experience in setting up optical labs
  • Communication skills
  • Prior experience developing technologies that has resulted in transition into high-volume consumer products.
