Research Scientist, Optical Device Modeling

Oculus Research, the research division of Oculus (Facebook), is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Research Scientist to drive and manage our optical modeling (simulation) activities – a critical component of our activities to drive the development of smaller and more efficient light sources.This role is particularly suited to a Research Engineer or Scientist who wishes to further develop their career in a vibrant, multidisciplinary and fast-moving research environment.


  • Provide optical device physics and simulation expertise for both epitaxial wafer and device design for red (AlInGaP), green and blue (InGaN) LEDs.
  • Benchmark of competing technologies (LED, Laser, OLED).
  • Promote and support innovation to facilitate IP generation as appropriate.
  • Coordinate optical design activity with internal partners on epitaxy, chip, testing and supporting package, electronic driver & system specifications.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and external partners (universities, research institutes, industry).
  • Integrate of end products’ optical requirements into our device physics and optical simulation models.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (ideally PhD) in Optics, Micro-electronics, Physics.
  • 5+ years’ experience in optoelectronic device simulation of RGB LEDs (or Lasers).
  • Strong demonstrable expertise in optical and device simulation tools for example Zemax, Ratro- SimuLED.
  • Experience of LED (Laser) device simulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thermal modeling experience.
  • Strong background in optics and semiconductor physics.
