Research Scientist, Semiconductor Assembly and Packaging

Oculus Research, the research division of Oculus VR (Facebook), is currently seeking a highly experienced person for research on semiconductor device assembly processes. The job is particularly suited to a Research Scientist who wishes to further develop their career in a vibrant, multidisciplinary and fast-moving research environment.


  • Development of semiconductor device packaging and assembly at a micro-scale.
  • Provision of deep expertise in micro-robotic strategies.
  • Identification of materials for novel packaging techniques.
  • Support of the development of state-of-art assembly processes and hardware.
  • Identification of, and management of, external assembly partners.
  • Working closely with other cross-functional team members to define advanced assembly solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Metallurgy or Material Science.
  • At least 5 years’ experience post first degree, in either an academic or industrial environment, of micro-assembly and/or micro-packaging.
  • Knowledge of robotic automation and positioning at micro-scale, including advanced control techniques
  • Strong experience of managing partners and subcontractors from both technical and project management perspectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of surface chemistry and behavior of materials at micro-scale.
  • Understanding of material characterization tools and methods at micro-scale.
  • Experience of robotic tool platform design and application.
