Lead Counsel

Oculus seeks a Lead Counsel for its Oculus virtual reality product ecosystem. Oculus invents, manufactures and sells industry leading virtual reality headsets and operates a global virtual reality content and social platform.

This position entails providing legal advice related to software running on Oculus's platform and hardware products. Success in this position will require applying a complex and evolving global legal and licensing framework to new and innovative products and services. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced start-up environment, as Oculus leads the field of virtual reality.


  • Counsel Oculus's teams on legal matters related to software running on Oculus PC and mobile platforms
  • Advise on open source licensing, compliance, and diligence
  • Coordinate Oculus's participation in standards organizations
  • Influence and build relationships with executives, product teams and peers across Oculus and Facebook
  • Collaborate with subject matters experts at Oculus and Facebook to analyze and communicate legal risks

Minimum Qualifications

  • J.D. degree with membership in at least 1 state bar
  • 5+ years of legal experience with law firms and/or in-house experience with technology companies
  • Product counseling experience
  • Experience with IP and technology licensing
  • Experience with operating systems and platforms running on consumer electronics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building influence with tech executives and advising various stakeholders teams on complex legal issues
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
