Electrical Engineer, Audio

Infrastructure | Redmond, WA

As an Electrical Engineer at Oculus Research, you will design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer augmented reality audio experiences. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through fast iterative prototyping. The teams will typically include electrical, mechanical, signal processing, perception and acoustic experts. We want people who: work well across disciplines, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, able to drive a concept into a prototype, and can envision how a prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product. Starting with a broad electrical engineering background, we’re looking for an audio electrical engineer who can specify electrical audio requirements, select components (audio ICs, amplifiers, MEMS microphones, transducers) and prototype real time audio systems. Familiarity with electrical CAD tools, layout, board design, debug and board bring up is required.

Responsibilities

  • Technical lead of a small team of Audio Electrical Engineers.
  • Designing, simulating, prototyping, and testing of electrical systems in augmented reality systems which combine electronics, mechanics, acoustics and signal processing.
  • Firmware development experience for micro-controllers, such as ARM M0+ and ARM M4F.
  • Collaborating in a team environment across engineering disciplines. System and integration level cross-functional team contribution.
  • Building schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into acoustic-mechanical systems.
  • Define requirements, specify components and develop schedules.
  • Transforming vendor reference designs into custom solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in audio circuit design.
  • 2+ years experience in a technical lead or management role
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in schematic and board design using Altium or equivalent.
  • Circuit design experience for uControllers, uProcessors and programmable logic based development.
  • Experience programming in C/C++/Python.
  • Experience with revision control in GIT.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Electrical Engineering.
  • Circuit design experience in audio for consumer electronics. Real-time audio digital signal processing.
  • MATLAB scripting experience.
  • Experience with DSP platforms.
  • Knowledge and understanding of digital filters (FIR and IIR)
  • Audio DSP tuning experience such as speech enhancement algorithms, echo cancellers, beam-formers, active noise cancellation, audio effects.
  • Experience in high speed differential circuits.
  • Experience in Verilog/FPGAs.
