Technical Program Manager

Join a team of researchers who are working to create the next generation of virtual and augmented reality technology. Oculus Research is seeking a Technical Program Manager to work closely with an Oculus Research team to develop and manage research studies involving volunteer participants. This role, at the forefront of a new technology platform, will coordinate studies critical to designing the next generation of virtual reality. The candidate should have a background in project management in ambiguous conditions, and be eager to collaborate with a variety of different groups from engineering, program management, and to legal to increase the capacity for the quality of our research.


  • Manage projects as part of a larger research program, ensure priorities and goals of those projects are aligned with those of the program as a whole.
  • Assist researchers and engineers with contracts and partnership management, including academic collaborations, professional services, study IRB process, and vendor worker management.
  • Own communication with Legal, Biz Dev, EHS, and academic partnership teams and ensure proper process is followed.
  • Develop and document processes and ensure that relevant team members are trained on those procedures.
  • Provide guidance to researchers regarding operations and processes to work with internal teams and external partners.
  • Oversee relationships with recruiting services, staffing companies and other vendors.
  • Monitor and predict capacity needs and determine changes that may be needed to support research.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communications with stakeholders during the course of the project, escalating issues appropriately when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a medical, scientific, or management field.
  • 3+ years of program management or coordination experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining operations processes.
  • Demonstrable experience in risk management, managing sensitive data, and assessing and mitigating.
  • Experience preparing and submitting studies to an IRB.
  • Organizational and document management experience.
  • Experience managing external vendors and partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Ability to communicate to a wide group of individuals across multiple domains about complex issues.
