User & Research Studies Program Manager

Join a team of researchers who are working to create the next generation of Virtual Reality technology. Oculus Research is seeking a Program Manager to work closely with a number of teams within Oculus and Facebook to develop and manage research studies involving volunteer participants. This role, at the forefront of a new technology platform, will coordinate studies critical to designing the next generation of virtual reality. The candidate should have a background in user or clinical studies, and be eager to collaborate with a variety of different groups - from engineering to program management to legal - to increase the capacity for and the quality of our research studies.


  • Oversee research studies using volunteer participants.
  • Ensure that studies have identified and addressed risks such as health, safety, participant consent, reputation, and data security.
  • Provide guidance to researchers submitting studies to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), coordinate IRB submission and track which studies have obtained IRB approval.
  • Develop and document study procedures and ensure that staff conducting the studies are trained on those procedures.
  • Work closely with internal and external counsel, and health and safety personnel regarding user and product evaluation studies.
  • Stay abreast of developments in consumer product safety and the impacts on Oculus’ research and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to researchers regarding study procedures and study operations.
  • Oversee relationships with recruiting services, staffing companies and other vendors related to research studies.
  • Monitor and predict capacity needs and determine changes that may be needed to support all planned studies.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communications with stakeholders during the course of the study, escalating issues appropriately when necessary.
  • Proactively understand the research support needs of research and science staff to allocate research assistant resources.
  • Understand how to allocate resources for projects with competing needs.
  • Manage a team of Research Assistants in support of studies across our org.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a medical, scientific, or management field.
  • 5+ years of program management experience in user and/or clinical research.
  • Experience developing study procedures and implementing staff training programs.
  • Demonstrable experience in risk management, managing sensitive data, assessing study risks and mitigating study risks.
  • Experience preparing and submitting studies to an IRB.
  • Experience managing external vendors related to research studies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Organizational and document management skills.
