Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with experience in systems integration to join our Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) team in Menlo Park, CA. In this role, you would work closely with researchers as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team (e.g. mechanical, electrical, optical, and software) to design, build, test, and maintain novel wearable neural interface technologies. Our research is focused on developing functional brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies for use in consumer electronic products. Our team collaborates extensively with small companies and academic institutions, and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.


  • Drive Mechanical Engineering activities to completion in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Identify resources necessary to accomplish planned goals, and work with external vendors as appropriate to complement in house expertise
  • Work closely with researchers to understand their goals and elicit mechanical device requirements, and design mechanical solutions implemented in CAD
  • Apply rigorous engineering and tolerance techniques to high precision design requirements in the areas such as Optics, Mechanics, and Motion Control
  • Use in house facilities to fabricate mechanical components and systems as needed
  • Take prototypes to increasing levels of fidelity, implementing SWaP-C design choices

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of product design/prototyping experience, with a combination of focus in areas of precision mechanisms, mechatronics, electro-mechanical systems, actuation systems, and optics
  • Experience in 3D design modeling
  • Experience across a range of manufacturing techniques (Machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)
  • Experience facilitating cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Specialization in opto-mechanical systems development involving micro-optic and fiber optic components
  • Experience integrating micro-optical components
  • Mass Production experience (working with over-seas manufacturing)
