Materials Engineer

We are currently seeking a Materials Engineer with expertise in materials development targeting novel near-eye display technology. The researcher will interface directly with our team of Optical Design staff and Nanofabrication Research staff to develop materials with defined optical performance.
The position is a full-time regular position requiring a PhD in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering, or similar relevant experience. Candidates requires expertise in advanced lithographic tooling, materials and processes.
The candidate should be comfortable with materials characterization. Ideally, candidates will have experience in fabricating novel optical elements. Candidates must be comfortable working in a cross-functional team.


  • Develop process and materials in support of near-eye optical components
  • Develop operational protocols for efficient execution of experiments
  • Ability to identify, develop, and test materials given a set of optical specifications
  • Work closely with the Research staff, and engineering staff to design and execute design of experiments
  • Work closely with the Optics team to understand design sensitivities and to establish appropriate metrology and characterization strategies
  • Build collaborative relationships both internally and externally to support research initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in chemistry, material science, engineering, or similar fields with applications towards advanced patterning and/or optical elements
  • Knowledge of patterning technology techniques
  • Knowledge in nanofabrication techniques including deposition, etch, and lithography

Preferred Qualifications

  • Capable of both synthesis and formulation work
  • Experience with Nano-imprint materials development
  • Skills in materials characterization
