Manager, Software Engineering, AR/VR - Spark AR

The Spark AR team builds the Augmented Reality (AR) platform at Facebook. This includes computer vision technology, 3D graphics, infrastructure, and tools to power, accelerate, and scale AR experiences across Facebook’s family of applications and current and future hardware. We are looking for a strong Engineering Manager with experience in developing mobile frameworks (Android and iOS), experience with camera APIs, media delivery, and media processing or graphics. The person in this role will support other leaders within the group, and will have the opportunity to lead a world class development team in shipping code across multiple apps and products, bringing world-class technologies to hundreds of millions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with global hardware and software engineering teams such as Facebook, Instagram and Portal.
  • Support seasoned managers in their own areas of responsibilities including but not limited to rendering, camera capture and developer infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to both your team members and your project peers.
  • Champion engineering and operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement.
  • Establish a solid project framework and excellent development processes.
  • Drive an excellent customer experience, continually raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity.
  • Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
  • Operate strategically and tactically.
  • Work on strategy and help set direction while staying on top of the day-to-day software development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of working experience on platform technology involving collaboration with internal customer teams.
  • 5+ years of work experience architecting, developing, and launching software products and/or services.
  • 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams including hiring/termination and performance management.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting other engineering managers.
  • 5+ years experience C/C++/Java or comparable language (i.e., JavaScript).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working on 2D or 3D graphics technology, client and services.
  • Familiarity with Android and iOS camera and media processing.
  • Familiarity with OpenGL ES and 3D technologies.
  • Familiarity with computer vision and machine learning.
