AR System Performance and Power Optimization Engineer

Facebook AR/VR focuses on delivering Facebook's vision through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The compute performance and power efficiency requirements of Virtual and Augmented Reality require custom silicon. Facebook Silicon team is driving the state of the art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, sensors, and new ways to map the human body. Our chips will enable AR & VR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, firmware, and algorithms.
As part of the AR SoC team, System Performance and Power Optimization Engineer will help with analysis of workloads, lead power/performance measurement and analysis efforts, and contribute to the development of micro-benchmarks. The ideal candidate for this role will have an excellent grasp on SoC architecture, experience with thermally constrained performance optimization on mobile devices, familiarity with power and performance measurement tools and analyzers, comfortable in operating in a cross-functional environment, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.


  • Performance bottleneck analysis and power characterization.
  • Extract system-usage behavior of workloads and design micro-benchmarks.
  • Lead Silicon performance, power, thermal measurement and analysis efforts.
  • Work across disciplines, brainstorm big ideas, build new methodologies, juggle/coordinate multiple initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with thermally constrained performance optimization on embedded devices.
  • 3+ years of experience with performance profilers and power measurement tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with C or C++ programming, Assembly (ARM and x86), and scripting.
  • Masters of Science or PHD in EE/CS or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of SoC Architecture, NoCs, memory sub-system, and heterogeneous compute principles.
  • Knowledge of prevalent industry performance and power benchmarks.
