Optical Product Engineer

As an Optical Product Engineer at Facebook AR/VR, you will be responsible for productizing precision optical components that are core to delivering transformative experiences in next generation Oculus AR and VR products. You will join an agile team that is laser-focused on incubating winning prototypes, establishing new process capabilities with supply-chain partners, and releasing product sub-systems that are fully hardened for high-volume manufacturing (HVM). We want people who work well in teams comprising a wide range of disciplines, who go between brainstorming big ideas and paying relentless attention to critical performance, yield, and integration milestones. Based on a robust engineering background, candidates should have earned their track record of bringing multiple products from concept into HVM.

Responsibilities

  • Translate market and system requirements into module and component specifications.
  • Productize, optimize, and drive the release of optical components.
  • Deliver results working with external partners.
  • Collaborate in the integration of optical sub-systems and development vehicles.
  • Design & setup fabrication infrastructure, develop test methods, and complete design verification.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in optical engineering, or similar areas.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing, prototyping, and optimizing optical components.
  • Experience in coherent techniques.
  • Experience in sequential ray tracing and tolerancing using ZEMAX or Code V.
  • Experience as a full stack optical product engineer with lab characterization and data analysis.
  • Experience designing consumer products, at least 1 full product life cycle concept to launch.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in optical science, or similar areas, with first-hand experience of optics manufacturing processes.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience with novel manufacturing techniques, processes, and materials.
  • Experience with multiple full life cycle product launches.
