Technical Lead - Oculus Studios

Technical Program Management | Menlo Park, CA

The Technical Lead will be working directly with a team of seasoned video game producers and the world’s best game studios to deliver multiple triple-A titles based on top tier global IP to our consumers. You will be joining a team that is managing multiple large projects in flight at any given time, adding your expertise in game development to support teams and software in development, participate in project gate reviews, solve production problems in collaboration with our producers and our partners, add leverage where needed, and improve internal processes and execution. Coming into this role, you will have the experience to quickly build strong partnerships across multiple internal cross functional groups and external studios and IP partners, instill confidence and identify gaps in our technology.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Studios producers to ensure timely delivery of large and complex projects built by internal teams and external partners, including some of the top studios and brands in the world, by working through influence to identify and solve technical, process, development and production issues
  • Act as a liaison between internal product leaders, software leaders and Studio partners on technical plans, software development roadmaps, features and policies
  • Advocate for issues that our teams and titles need addressed
  • driving, tracking and reporting out on resolutions
  • Evaluate, track, and report on technical progress, results, risks, mitigation and opportunities for the project being managed by the organization
  • Work with the producers and other members of the Content Operations team to contribute to a standard Game Development Framework for all projects that includes key technical milestones (e.g. Concept Review, Pre-production, Vertical Slice, Production, etc.) and defining technical deliverables at each milestone
  • Problem solver who suggests solutions for technical challenges and brings the right people together to solve problems and resolve bottlenecks. Will not set mandates or assert direct control over the teams, but instead will connect the right people, set the framework and context, and communicate frequently, forming collaborative relationships to make things happen

  • Translate strategy into plans that are clear and measurable, with progress shared out monthly to stakeholders
  • Formalize a process for on-site developer technical evaluations and drive on-site reviews measuring project potential and running a capabilities audit

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years experience in AAA video game development
  • Game engine experience (Unity, Unreal)
  • Experience developing for new platforms and/or handheld devices
  • Experience with low level work (drivers, CPU/GPU, pipelines, etc.)
  • Understanding of the game development life cycle, tools and processes from pre-production through to launch and in to live services
  • Experience in conducting on-site developer technical evaluations
  • Familiarity with multiple genres of VR, PC and/or console games
  • Experience building relationships with first and second party developers, managers, peers and cross functional partners
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proprietary game engine experience
  • Experience developing VR applications/games
  • Platform development experience
  • Working directly with external developers to release content on a platform
