Operations Manager, Developer Strategy

You will be joining a team of producers that works across the entire Oculus VR development ecosystem to find, fund, and deliver the next big hit VR games as well as nurture promising developers and invest in content that is strategic for the company. Your role will be to leverage your production, management, development oversight, and development operations expertise to improve the execution, hit rate, timely delivery, bandwidth, and throughput for the whole team. You will partner with the Head of Developer Strategy and the entire Developer Strategy team to evaluate new developers and products quickly and accurately, prepare team for content investment discussions for products, work with Business Development and Legal to structure milestones and contracts for timely delivery, track and report on the hundreds of projects that are in-flight, leverage influence to troubleshoot development work with our external partners to get them back on track, and help the team to work more efficiently and effectively with new processes, process improvements, and better execution across the board. As Operations Manager with our Content operations team you have the experience to quickly build strong partnerships, instill confidence and trust and identify gaps and strengths that we need to solve for as it relates to our organization’s short and long term objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Formalize a process for on-site developer evaluations and drive on-site reviews measuring project potential and running a capabilities audit
  • assess ability to effectively manage teams, deliver products on time, on budget and at quality
  • Work with the Developer Strategy team to prepare documentation for content investment reviews, including developer capability assessment, project budget and schedule, and rationale for approval
  • Work with Business Development and Legal to structure developer contracts with proper milestone and deliverables needed to ensure timely delivery with a minimum of production oversight
  • Troubleshoot development issues and work through influence with the external developers to get back on track
  • Empower external developers to successfully leverage the central resources of the Developer Strategy organization
  • Level up the internal execution, bandwidth, and throughput of the entire Developer Strategy team with new processes, process improvements, changes to organization and workflows, or other changes that make sense given your expertise in development management, development operations, production, and management of high performance teams
  • Track and report on projects that are in flight, including budget and schedule data
  • Establish action plans and timelines in line with our organization’s goals and objectives
  • monitor and hold team accountable through influence and not direct reporting lines
  • Build a robust, repeatable documented process for the development pipeline from identification to launch and in to live service
  • Partner with operations partners to oversee QA testing and localization of multiple titles
  • Work with the Content Ops hardware program manager, attend monthly forecasting meetings to ensure allocations meet demand for developer hardware (developer kits and other hardware made available to developers)
  • Attend the monthly prioritization meeting for our CRM tool, bringing the team’s requirements to the group and advocating for their implementation
  • Foster a work environment where team members remain committed and continue to take ownership in delivering content at quality and on time
  • Ensure cross functional partners have the information they need to execute against their objectives through data accuracy and enforcing best practices with the team
  • Domestic and international travel for this role will be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years experience in video game development or project management, with at least 8 of those years focused specifically on the operations of teams larger than 12 people
  • 8+ years experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling
  • Understanding of the game development life cycle, tools and processes from pre-production through to launch and in to live services
  • Experience with strategic and measurable goal definition across an organization
  • Experience using data to drive future decisions
  • Experience with compliance and certification testing (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo)
  • Experience working with external QA and Localization vendors
  • Experience conducting on-site developer evaluations
  • Familiar with multiple genres of VR, PC and/or console games
  • Experience working with partners on building relationships with third party developers, managers, peers, cross functional partners and vendors

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Salesforce
  • Experience developing and launching VR applications/games
  • Platform QA and hardware development experience
  • Experience working directly with third party developers to release content on a platform
  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science or related fields
