Facebook Reality Labs brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers to build the future of connection within virtual and augmented reality. We're developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets.

Facebook Reality Labs is seeking an embedded software intern to support our efforts to build synchronized video and audio capture systems. You will join an interdisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers who are co-located and remote. The work you do will directly impact our research into photorealistic avatars for telepresence in AR/VR.


  • Writing embedded software (firmware) for AR/VR capture systems
  • Bringing-up and testing video and audio capture hardware
  • Collaborating with product and research teams across the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Experience coding and debugging C/C++ code on an embedded system
  • Experience scripting with Python
  • Experience with wireless (RF) communication systems such as Zigbee, Bluetooth

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Hands-on experience with peripherals such as UART, SPI, CSI-2, I2C, GPIO, USB
  • Familiarity with soldering and using hardware tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers
