Research Scientist, Virtual Humans - Spatial Audio (PhD)

At Facebook Reality Labs Pittsburgh, our goal is to build the future of communication in AR and VR. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Researcher to join our team, whose mission is to create and apply scientific knowledge about the cognitive system to improve human experiences in the augmented world. As a Research Scientist in our lab, you will be working with a team of researchers in a broad category of disciplines (including Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, and Sound Synthesis).

Responsibilities

  • Prototype and drive implementation and testing of state-of-the-art algorithms for spatial audio measurement and analysis
  • Develop techniques to solve complex acoustic research problems in the field of spatial audio and sound field representation leveraging multimodal data captured using our state-of-the-art capture systems
  • Collaborate with team members across a variety of domains including signal processing, acoustic engineering, computer vision and computer graphics
  • Attend scientific conferences, publish and present papers in international conferences and journals

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree or completing a postdoctoral assignment in the field of Applied Mathematics, Audio Engineering and Signal Processing, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of programming experience in C++, Python, MATLAB and similar
  • 3+ years of experience in development of audio signal processing algorithms
  • Experience working with microphone arrays
  • Experience with spatial audio capture and reproduction
  • Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine learning, computer vision, and audio-visual scene analysis
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading conferences or journals such as ICASSP, InterSpeech, CVPR, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, IEEE transactions and workshops, or similar
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
