Research Scientist

At Facebook Reality Labs Pittsburgh, our goal is to build the future of communication in AR and VR. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Researcher to join our team, whose mission is to create and apply scientific knowledge about the cognitive system to improve human experiences in the augmented world. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in defining and executing human behavioral experiments with a focus on perceptual science and quality evaluation and who can work with a team of researchers in a broad category of disciplines (including Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, and Sound Synthesis).


  • Devise and execute research plans, aligned with team goals, to investigate ways to improve the perception of virtual interactions
  • Work effectively with a diverse, interdisciplinary group of researchers & engineers within and across teams
  • Mentor MS/PhD interns, contribute to your peer’s projects and collaborate with external academic groups to advance our research goals

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Behavioral Science or similar
  • 2+ years experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research that spans both perceptual research and engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the domain of visual quality
  • Experience in virtual reality, psychophysics, engineering psychology, or computational modeling
  • Communication, interpersonal and personal management skills
  • 2+ years of experience in industry applying perceptual knowledge to solve engineering problems
  • Track record of achieving results, including first-authored journal publications
